One of the things you ABSOLUTELY need to do when in Paris is eating some of the traditional "patisseries" the French capital is famous for, from chocolate eclair and 'religieuse' to macaron and Paris-Brest. And millefeuille, of course. Failing to do so is like coming to Sydney and missing the Opera House, or going to New York and not spending one dollar splurging on shoes and handbags. Wrong on so many levels!
Millefeuille - aka 'vanilla slice' for my Australian friends - is one of my all-time favourite pastries. So delicious, with its thin layers of puff pastry and layers of creme patissiere... Can be a bit messy to eat, but it's for a good cause! To help you eat your way around the plethora of really good pastry shops in Paris, here's my own Top-10 for millefeuilles. Enjoy!
1. La Patisserie des Reves: anything in Philippe Conticini's new pastry shop is to die for, but his millefeuille is definitely one of the best-sellers (93 rue du Bac, Paris 7th, www.lapatisseriedesreves.com)
2. Ladurée: need I say more?? (16 rue Royale, Paris 8th, www.laduree.com)
3. Stéphane Vandermeersch: a fantastic local bakery / pastry store in east Paris (278 avenue Daumesnil, Paris 12th)
4. Gérard Mulot: one of the pastry superstars on the Left Bank, amazing millefeuille with berries (76 rue de Seine, Paris 6th, www.gerard-mulot.com)
5. La Grande Epicerie de Paris: because a trip there is a must-do anyway. Think Alice in Wonderland for foodies (38 rue de Sevres, Paris 7th, www.lagrandeepicerie.fr)
La Patisserie des Reves
7. Pierre Hermé: because one always needs a good excuse to go back to Pastry Mecca! And because Hermé always seems to do things a bit differently, his millefeuille is actually a "2000 feuilles" (72 rue Bonaparte, Paris 6th, www.pierreherme.com)
8. Angelina: their millefeuille is really delicious, and the perfect accompaniment to their world-famous hot chocolate (226 rue de Rivoli, Paris 1st)
9. Chocolaterie Jacques Génin: chocolate addicts in Paris absolutely adore his new chocolate store, and his millefeuille is pretty special as well (133 rue de Turennes, Paris 3rd)
10. last but not least... Senderens: this one is a bit special because Senderens is not a pastry shop but an amazing restaurant (top-notch, former 3-Michelin stars), and Senderens' French vanilla millefeuille is just out of this world (Place de la Madeleine, Paris 8th, www.senderens.fr)
So tell me, dear reader, have you already been to any of these places? Ever tried their millefeuilles?

Thanks for sharing - I haven't been to La Patisserie des Reves but I'll make sure to visit next time I'm there. I'm a sucker for really good mille feuilles!

Gourmantic > What's not to love about Angelina, right?! The only thing is that if you go there for the millefeuille, you HAVE to have their hot chocolate as well, so yes, not the most diet-focused afternoon probably. Oh, well, we all deserve a treat every now and then!

Awwww - Angelina, I do miss their hot "chocolat Africain"!
Service is terrible but what wouldn't I endure for this thick liquid gold, and the accompanying unsweetened whipped cream!
And for those watching their diet, one pot actually serves 2 (I feel less guilty about the over-indulgence if I share...)
Do you know if we can find it online?
